Preliminary - Evaluation

I think that I preliminary task has been very beneficial as it has helped me develop new skills and gain a better understanding of how a music video is created. I now understand that good lip syncing is very difficult to do and can look very ammeter if done poorly. looking at our final product for our preliminary task  I can clearly see there are certain aspect which need to be improved for example the lack of props and and costumed held our video back. the reason for the lack of props and equipment is due us not be able to plan in advance as we only found out the task on the day. When it comes to the real task I will make sure that I do a good amount of research and planning so that I am better prepared for the task.

other areas such as lighting are highly important as they give the shoot a professional edge over other videos, because the audience expectations are so high they will often only notice the lighting when it is done badly. when shooting our music video we used the space lights and colour filters to give a higher quality to the video.

I will sure this experience to help benefit my music video, from doing the task prelim task I have shown me that timing is essential and it takes much longer to create a music video than first thought. also I now know how key planning is to a good music video, as we didn't have much prep and planning time and so our video was very last minute and mostly improvised. and so I will use this new found knowledge of music video production and carry this on to the main task

A2 Preliminary - Music video

Preliminary - Editing

For the editing process we first organized all of the separate clips by deleting any unwanted clips, places them into folders and then renamed them so that they were quick and easy to locate, .Once we had done this we then decided to use adobe premier pro to do all of our editing on as we were all familiar with it. we each took turn editing while the others observed, we began by importing the song "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)' by George Michael and Aretha Franklin, we had to import the music as when filming we cut all music as the quality would ave been low and would have picked up other background noises.

we were unable to randomly place the clips as we lip-synced and our mouths would not match up with the lyrics, therefore we had to place each clip at the specific time so that it looked as if we were singing.

Preliminary - Filming

Due to this only being a preliminary task we were only given one day to film, the group was taken to Glitbrook studios and this was where we had to shoot our video, this was beneficial as the studio was design for this type of filming and it had all the necessary equipment that we would need in the production such as infinity cove, green screen, lighting and playback monitors.

For the filming it was essential that everyone not involved was as quite as possible as any noise would distract the performer and mean a lower quality of filming. we went through the song a few lines at a time so that we were able to memorize the upcoming lines, for those in the group that were unable to remember the line we had to write up the verse on a white board and position it behind the camera. The monitors were very helpful as it showed exactly what was seen on the camera, this means that if anything went wrong it was easily picked up also the whole group could judge the quality of each shot and see if it needed re-filming

Preliminary - Planning

Once we were put into our group the first thing that we had to do was to do was plan out our music video. We began by listening to the song several time, this was to get a sense of what the video should be like and what sort of mood should be represented within the video. Whilst listening to the track we all took notes of what sort of atmosphere was create and then once the track was finished we then transferred these notes and then developed them into a mind map. We branched off several topics which related to the video such as props and lighting and then listed different ideas under each section. After this we then went through the video looking at a small section at a time and then made a basic storyboard so that we knew Would be happening at ever given moment.

Preliminary - Task

For the preliminary task we were all split up into groups  and then each were given a section of a song which we were then supposed to use to create a short music video. In the video we would have to be involved in all stages of production such as planning, filming, preforming and editing. We were told that we needed to be lip syncing in our video as this is an essential skill need for the production of our music video. This task was given to us to gives us a scene of what is expected and also to highlight how difficult the main task would be.
